Friday, October 27 to Wednesday, November 1, 2017 – The Sights of St. Louis
Combined with the
Missouri Star Quilt Company Retreat, Hamilton, Missouri
Tentative Itinerary:
Day 1  - Fri., Oct. 27 - Arrive St. Louis
The tour will depart from Orillia, Barrie, Bayfield Mall and the Tour Office for our shuttle to Pearson International Airport.  We have an early morning flight on Air Canada from Toronto to St Louis.  Upon arrival, we will be met by our St. Louis guide.  Our afternoon activities will include: A Quilt Store and a visit to the Campbell House Museum. Built in 1851, the first house in the elegant neighborhood Lucas Place, the Campbell House was the home of renowned fur trader and entrepreneur Robert Campbell and his family from 1854 until 1938. The home weaves the story of the Irish elite and their Irish domestic servants and how their lives intertwined, a bit of an American version of Downton Abbey right here in St. Louis.  Check in to the Drury Inn – Union Station – our home for the next two nights.  Enjoy the social hour at the hotel which includes a selection of hot appetizers with wine.  The evening is yours to relax and unwind. (Light dinner with drinks)
Day 2  - Sat., Oct 28 - St. Louis City tour
Enjoy a hot breakfast at your hotel.  Meet your professional Discover St. Louis guide and depart for a day of touring in St. Louis.  Begin the day with a narrated downtown tour highlighting all that St. Louis has to offer.  See the renovation along Washington Avenue, drive by Busch Stadium, Citygarden, the Old Courthouse and the Old Cathedral.  Drive through the historic neighborhoods of Lafayette Square and Soulard.  Enjoy a relaxing drive through Forest Park, home to the 1904 World’s Fair.  Today, Forest Park is home to many of St. Louis’ finest attractions including the world-renowned St. Louis Zoo, the Missouri History Museum and the Art Museum.  Visit and tour the Cathedral Basilica, whose 83,000 square feet of mosaic tiles is the largest tile collection in the world.
Board a replica paddle wheeler on the Mighty Mississippi River for a 1-hour narrated sightseeing cruise.  Enjoy a boxed lunch on board.  Next we visit Anheuser-Busch brewery to learn about the brew process.  We’ll also see the world-famous Clydesdale horses and have a photo op with them.  Then it’s off to the tasting room for free brewery product samples and time to visit the gift shop.
After a late afternoon break at the hotel, depart with your guide for a local neighborhood tour enroute to dinner.  Learn the history of the famed Italian neighborhood known to locals at “The Hill,” before arriving at Favazza’s Restaurant for dinner.  Tonight you will enjoy a traditional Italian meal – appetizer of toasted ravioli, Sicilian chicken, Italian salad, fresh Italian bread and coffee, tea or water.  For dessert, we visit a St. Louis original, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, located along Historic Route 66.  This unique, one-of-a-kind custard stand has been in operation since 1929 and has never been franchised.  You’ll enjoy either a small hot fudge sundae or a mini chip concrete.  (B, boxed lunch, dinner)
Day 3- Sun., Oct.  29 - Depart for Hamilton, MO
After breakfast at your hotel, load luggage and depart for the Missouri History Museum for time on your own to explore the exhibits.  Enjoy a beautiful brunch buffet complete with made-to-order omelet station, a la caret menu with Belgian waffles, bread pudding, 2 benedicts & 2 seasonal crepe selections, soft drinks and a glass of champagne before departing for Hamilton, MO.
Mid afternoon we will arrive in Hamilton and check into the Missouri Star Quilt Co. Retreat   Centre.  The rooms at the Retreat Centre are shared rooms. Our sleeping rooms are on the second floor of the Retreat Center and are only accessible via stairs. They are shared rooms, configured in several different ways from rooms that have three twin beds, to a room that sleeps six.   Rooms will be preassigned.  There are six individual, private bathrooms, each with a shower, toilet and sink, just steps away from the sleeping rooms that are shared by all the guests on the second floor. There are also two sleeping rooms located on the main floor, each with a queen bed and its own bathroom, that are reserved for individuals who cannot physically climb the stairs to the second floor.  The price listed is based on a TWIN bed.  There are 21 twin beds available and 7 Queen beds also in shared room arrangements.
Tonight we will settle into the Retreat Centre with a Welcome Reception from the MSQ Co. staff based on our theme of “Oh Canada!”  You can bring your unfinished projects from home, or purchase anything you may want to start something new. PLUS.....the sewing/activity and kitchen areas are available for you to use 24 hrs. a day! (B, Brunch & dinner)
Day 4  - Mon., Oct. 30 – This morning following breakfast we will have a class on the chosen project. The MSQ spacious well-lit classroom is equipped with 23 Baby Lock Melody Sewing machines, cutting boards, rotary cutters, rulers & scissors, ironing boards and irons. Details are still being worked out as to the design and size.  I have suggested that perhaps we could have a choice of either a lap quilt or queen size in the same pattern.  Details regarding the Cost of premade kits vs purchasing the fabric on the Monday morning ourselves for the Canadian inspired theme will follow for those who reserve a place with their deposit.  The staff at MSQ seem excited and up to the challenge of a Canadian Retreat.
Today there will be a morning class, sewing time, free time to explore one of the 11 Quilt stores in town or visit the J.C.Penney Memorial Library and Museum. This evening will be a private Trunk Show with Jenny Doan. (B, L & D)
Day 5  - Tues., Oct. 31 – Our day begins with breakfast followed by a Quilting Class.  Then free time for sewing or shopping.  Following dinner there will be a “Show & Tell” for those who wish to participate.  We are also in discussion with MSQ Co. regarding have our completed projects long arm quilted and shipped back to Canada.  Prices will be forthcoming and paid on an individual basis.  (B, L & D)
Day 6 – Wed., November 1 – Following breakfast, we will pack up our bags and enjoy some last minute shopping or time sewing. Our motor coach will pick us up at 11:30a.m. and we will return to St. Louis for our direct flight to Toronto, departing  at 5:55p.m. and arriving into Pearson International at 8:44p.m.  (B)
Our transfer vehicles will be waiting to return us to our original departure points.
