Day 1: Tues., Sept. 10 – Our coach will transfer us from Barrie, Bayfield Mall behind the Canadian Tire Store and the Tour Office to Pearson International Airport for our overnight flight to Glasgow. We will fly Air Transat direct to Glasgow. A valid Canadian passport is required for this tour.
Day 2: Wed., Sept. 11 – We arrive midmorning in Glasgow, meet our coach and driver and travel to Ayrshire for our overnight stay. A visit the birthplace of Scotland’s famous poet Robert Burns and the Burns centre prior to checking in to our Ayrshire hotel. (D)
Day 3: Thurs., Sept. 12 – After breakfast we depart and travel via Loch Lomond to the seaside town of Oban, our home for the next 2 nights. Oban is a gateway port to the Hebridean Islands. (B & D)
Day 4: Fri., Sept. 13 – Today we board the Ferry and travel from Oban to Craignure. Upon arriving on the Isle of Mull we drive to the most southern tip of the Island and then take the passenger ferry to Iona. This is where Columba brought Christianity to Scotland. There will be time to visit the Abbey and local craft shops before returning to Oban for the evening. (B & D)
Day 5: Sat., Sept. 14 –This morning we travel from Oban to Fort William to connect with the Jacobite Steam train described as one of the great railway journeys in the world. The Jacobite is a steam locomotive-hauled train service that operates over part of the West Highland Railway Line and was used as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter film. Fort William will be our home for the next two nights. (B & D)
Day 6: Sun., Sept. 15 – Today enjoy a day of sightseeing on the Isle of Skye. It is the largest and northernmost of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The island’s peninsulas radiate from a mountainous centre dominated by the Cuillins, the rocky slopes of which provide some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the country. This afternoon we return to our hotel via the Sky Bridge with a stop at Eilean Donan, known as Scotland’s most romantic castle. (B & D)
Day 7: Mon., Sept. 16-Today we travel up the Great Glen, and on to Thurso, mainland Scotland’s most Northerly town. This will be our home for the next 2 nights as we explore the area. (B & D)
Day 8: Tues., Sept. 17- Our adventure today starts with a ferry trip from John O Groats located on the northeast tip of Scotland to the Orkney Islands. The islands encompass Neolithic sites, tall sandstone cliffs and seal colonies. Our visits include the Stone Age village of Skara Brae, the Italian Chapel, the Standing Stones of Stenness, the Churchill Barriers, Scapa flow and the town of Kirkwall. (B & D)
Day 9: Wed. Sept. 18- Today we travel to Inverness with a stop at Castle Mey -the former home of the Queen Mother. We will visit a distillery to sample the whisky and learn about Scotland’s famous export. (B & D)
Day 10: Thurs., Sept. 19- This morning a short drive brings us to Loch Ness, the largest body of water in Scotland, and famous for its Loch Ness monster. In the afternoon we visit and learn about the Drumossie Moor which was the sight of the Battle of Culloden, the last battle fought on British soil and Bonnie Prince Charlie. (B & D)
Day 11: Fri., Sept. 20 – Today is a free day to explore the town of Inverness, visit the Victorian Market and stroll the banks of the River Ness. (B)
Day 12: Sat., Sept. 21 – Our scenic driving tour brings us to Edinburgh, Scotland’s Capital city for a 2-night stay. Enjoy an evening of Scottish food and entertainment. (B & D)
Day 13: Sun., Sept. 22 – Today we explore the “Athens of the North”, the city of Edinburgh with a local guide, including a visit to the Castle and time to explore Princess Street on your own. (B & D)
Day 14: Mon., Sept. 23 – This morning we travel to St. Andrews – the home of Golf. In the afternoon we cross the Tay Bridge to Dundee for our 2-night stay. (B)
Day 15: Tues., Sept. 24 – Today we will take a driving tour and explore the East Coast. We will also visit the newly opened Victoria and Albert Museum, the first ever dedicated design museum in Scotland and the only other V&A museum outside London, V&A Dundee provides a place of inspiration, discovery and learning. Day 16: Wed., Sept. 25 – This morning we depart for the Glasgow Airport and our flight home. Our coach will be waiting for our arrival at Pearson Airport to return us home. (B)
