Tuesday, August 8 to Thursday, August 10, 2017 – Thousand Island Resort Stay
combined with the Sunset Ceremonies at Fort Henry
Tentative Itinerary:
Day 1: Tues., Aug. 8 - The tour will depart Barrie, Bayfield Mall behind Canadian Tire Store at 7:30a.m., Tour Office at 8:00a.m. & Newmarket at 8:30a.m. (Overnight parking is available at our Tour Office).
A shuttle van will be picking up customers in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach & Elmvale (with a minimum of 6 passengers) upon request and transferred to meet the coach in Barrie.
This morning we will drive to Kingston where we will board our Cruise boat for a narrated 3 hour luncheon cruise of the 1000 Islands.  Then we will travel to the Colonial Resort in Gananoque for our 2 night stay.  A welcome reception and dinner followed by live entertainment awaits our arrival.  (L & D)
Day 2: Wed., Aug 9 - This morning there is an optional shuttle to explore the Main Street of Gananoque.  A BBQ picnic lunch will be served at the Resort.  More free time to relax and enjoy the pools, shuffleboard, horseshoe pits or walking paths.  This evening we will attend the Sunset Ceremonies at Fort Henry, which will include dinner prior to the presentation. Fort Henry with its Martello towers and other fortifications is located at the foot of the Rideau Canal – all comprising a UNESCO World Heritage site.  The Sunset Ceremony begins at 8:00p.m.  It is a core event that features the Fort Henry Guard Drums, Drill Squad and Artillery Detachments presenting a period interpretation of 1860s military music and drill along with artillery maneuvers. The addition of cutting-edge technology allows Fort Henry to present a redesigned show that embraces a new, action-packed story line. Engaged audiences follow the story of a soldier's journey to his new posting in the Kingston Garrison with vivid imagery and drama. The show is a tribute to the original garrison, to each of the subsequent military units stationed at Fort Henry, and to today's Canadian Forces. (B, L & D)
Day 3:  Thurs., Aug. 10 - Following breakfast we will travel to Kingston for a guided City Tour.  Kingston was the First Capital of a United Canada.  Kingston is often called "the limestone city" because of the many charming limestone buildings, many of which help tell the story of Canada.  There will be free time to explore the city’s Farmer’s Market over the lunch hour.  A visit the Bellevue House Historic Site will complete our day.  Visit the 1840’s restored house and gardens of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada’s first Prime Minister.  Exhibits in the Visitor Centre commemorate his life and career, and costumed staff  present the daily life of the Macdonald family.
We will depart for home midafternoon with a dinner stop at the Enroute Centre in Port Hope, returning to Barrie at approximately 9:00p.m. (B)
